It’s not just about being thin; it’s about looking healthy. Also bikini models have a different body type to fashion models. To break into modelling takes dedication and a few insider tips. Use these steps to learn how to break into swimsuit modelling.

Read as much current information as you can about the modelling industry. It is vital to know how to interact with agents, photographers, clients and other models.
Step2
Hire a personal trainer to help you build a strong, lean and firmer body that looks toned from all angles. Again, there is an expense in hiring a trainer, but it will get you the results you need faster.
Step3
Contact a photographer to help you put together a portfolio. Explain to the photographer that you are interested in a career as a bikini model. Portfolios can be expensive, but it is a necessary investment for a model at any career level.
Step4
Call all the modelling agencies that you are willing to meet with. This could be just in your local area or it could be New York or L.A., Sao Paulo where the top agencies are, if you are willing to travel.
Step5
Get booked. Attend open calls for swimsuit or fitness work. Subscribe to an online modelling community to network and find jobs. Introduce yourself and your portfolio to swimsuit companies to see if they want to hire you for their next catalogue, ad or commercial.

- Subscribe to an industry magazine. It’s often a great way to know when agents are looking for talent or companies are holding open calls.
- Be friendly and take criticism seriously and nicely. Photographers and producers don’t have the time or money to waste on divas; there are many more girls waiting for your job.
- Enter fresh face contests as offered through “Sports Illustrated” magazine. These contests are specially designed for models with little or no experience who want to break into bikini modelling.
- Don’t close doors on yourself. Many a famous model has worked trade shows and done shoots for prints only to gain some experience and name recognition.
